Touhula Hervannan Kampus, Tampere

Krista Hietanen Daycare Manager

Touhula Hervannan Kampus opened its doors in the campus of Tampere University of Technology in January 2018. We have five groups of children divided on the basis of age. The daycare centre is science-themed and supports the children to experiment and explore the surrounding world. At Touhula Hervannan Kampus every day is an adventure!

In Touhula Science daycare centre, we create space and time for curiosity and creativity. Children expand their skills to observe, analyze and understand their environment. We support children to try, explore and practise through different phases and to be creative in problem-solving.

Children find joy of doing, experiment and discovering by themselves in creative ways. We also learn with children to find information on the phenomena they are interested in. Children will develop their skills to question, find answers together and draw conclusions.

At Touhula Hervannan Kampus the children get to learn communication also in English via Moomin Language School. An atmosphere rich with different cultures and languages inspires kids to explore and understand new perspectives and world views!

In addition to full-day Early Education and Care, we offer a range of flexible daycare solutions to meet the various needs of families. However, there are a limited number of part-time daycare places, so please ask your daycare centre manager directly about the current situation.

Apply for Early Education and Care

Secure your place at Touhula. We fill our daycare places in the order in which applications arrive.

The application process is as follows:

  1. Fill in the application(s); please remember to complete a separate application for each daycare center.
  2. We will contact you within a week after you send your application. In many cases, we are able to confirm a place right away.

Our groups

At Touhula, we operate during the day in small groups in which each child is seen and heard as a unique individual. The childrens’ guardians also have an opportunity to be genuinely present and help fulfil their children’s needs.

The TouGo application is the primary tool for contacting the daycare center about everyday issues concerning a child.

Partnership in our daycare centre

Touhula’s partnerships are based on the following core values: the joy of learning, the desire to do good and making everyday life easier for families. Touhula daycare centres collaborate with several partners.

  • Moomin Language School

Learning is more fun on the children’s terms

Learning a foreign language as a child has positive effects that will last a lifetime. Children learn new languages the best before they go to school, as new information is acquired quickly and they have a natural interest in languages.

Moomin Language School helps kids learn a new language through joy and play.

We invest in a positive and supportive atmosphere that aims to encourage and inspire children to learn a foreign language.  By encouraging the child to try and use the foreign language we also strengthen their linguistic identity.

Learning languages early on lays a solid foundation for all learning

Learning languages at an early age improves concentration, prevents learning disability, and accelerates learning new things. The use of a foreign language is integrated in all areas of learning. The positive effects are also evident in reading, speaking, and writing one’s mother tongue, as well as in social capabilities.

Five minutes a day is enough

The Moomin Language School learning application is part of the daycare centre’s everyday operation. In addition to language skills, these exercises develop children’s creativity, memory, mathematical thinking, and social skills. The digital technology motivates the child, makes it easier to use the language verbally, and speeds up learning. The learning only takes 5–15 minutes daily, depending on the child’s capabilities and age. Learning can be tracked in real time for each child.
